Back pressure: pay attention to "single line"

  

The pressure usually does not cause problems on the high pressure side of the diaphragm, as volume changes determine the operation of the device. Usually, the back pressure problem occurs on the low pressure side because the gas and liquid on this side must be discharged and replaced in each stroke of the diaphragm.

Reduce the effects of back pressure through ventilation

  

The size of the vents must be of a moderate size so that there is enough gas to enter and rub the diaphragm in a precise amount of time. The size of the venting holes should also be carefully considered when the braking sequence is increased during the acceleration test, or when the equipment is subjected to higher pressure and rapid operation.

Reduce the risk of sidewall compression

  

The last cause of the failure is circumferential compression. It means that the larger diameter portion of the diaphragm sidewall oppresses the piston. This will cause the side walls to be axially folded so that the diaphragm fits the piston. Since the fabric used for the support is a square well pattern type, wrinkles perpendicular to the convolution appear everywhere, and the threads are filled.

Minimize the possibility of rupture

  

The circumferential compression is often referred to as " four cornering " (four revolutions) . It cannot be completely eliminated, but it can be controlled. Repeated folding at the same location can cause breakage of the crosshairs, causing the rubber to rupture.   

Method of reducing circumferential compression

 

There are several ways to reduce circumferential compression. Each method has its advantages and disadvantages. Our engineers will recommend the best solution for you!  

1. Limit stroke and pressure

 

The first method uses only the lower half of the diaphragm stroke. The use of the lower half reduces the area of ​​the sidewall extrusion piston. This is the portion of the sidewall that is the smallest difference from the circumference of the piston, so that both the amplitude and the sharpness of the convolution are reduced. In this way, the life of the piston can be extended.

2. Double tip reduces compression

  

Another way to reduce circumferential compression and maintain the diaphragm's stroke capability is to use a double-tip diaphragm.

On a standard top diaphragm, the side walls of the diaphragm form a straight line and are tangent to the flange and piston radius.

At the top of the double-tip piston, the side wall is tangent to the radius of the piston and forms an angle of 45 degrees to 60 degrees with it, close to sixty percent of the convolved thickness.

At this point, the sidewall is first bent around a small radius and then directly tangential to the radius of the piston. This gives the effective length of the side walls a steeper angle, which in turn reduces the circumference of the side walls.

3. “Pre-convolution” can predict problems

   

The same effect can be obtained by molding the diaphragm into an offset pre-convoluted diaphragm . In this case, you only need to place the pre-convolution diaphragm in the full up position. The effect is obvious, it adds the total amount of operating sidewalls to the circumference of the piston, essentially eliminating circumferential compression.

4. Hardware highlights   

The last method to reduce circumferential compression is to use a tapered piston. Although this method can effectively adjust the circumference, it is not the most ideal way to solve the compression for two reasons:

The use of a conical piston adjusts the circumference such that the effective pressure decreases as the pressure increases.

Fixed convolution causes the effective pressure to rise as the pressure decreases.

These two pressure-related effects must be thoroughly considered and tested before using this solution.
