Summer corn must be four defenses

One is anti-falling   When corn seedlings are too dense, and water and fertilizer management is inadequate during stem elongation, it can lead to lodging, which negatively affects yield. To prevent this, it's important to deepen the soil layer during planting, increase base fertilizer application, and properly cultivate the soil during growth. Balanced use of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium fertilizers is essential, as well as maintaining appropriate plant density to ensure that leaves receive enough sunlight. This helps make the plants strong and sturdy, improving their resistance to lodging.

Second, the air defense stalk   A lack of minerals or poor nutrition during the ear differentiation stage can cause empty stalks. This often happens when the planting density is too high, leading to weak photosynthesis and deficiencies in nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. To manage this, it's crucial to maintain proper spacing between plants so that they have enough ventilation. Timely supply of nutrients and water supports ear development, while a balanced combination of NPK fertilizers ensures healthy growth. For soils with low fertility, adding more organic manure is beneficial, while for high-fertility soils, more fertilizers should be applied early to promote strong root systems and robust stalks. If necessary, thin out weak or overly dense plants to improve overall health.

The third is anti-bald   A deficiency in phosphate fertilizer during the booting stage can disrupt sugar metabolism and protein synthesis, causing the top of the ear to shrink and reducing silk elongation, which affects pollination and leads to baldness or even empty ears. If potassium is lacking, the transport of carbohydrates to the grains is hindered, resulting in small kernels. Insects, wind damage, or heavy rain during flowering can also interfere with pollination, leading to barren or underdeveloped grains. To prevent this, ensure timely application of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, avoid premature aging of plants, and manage pests and diseases. During drought, water the crops promptly, and consider artificial pollination during flowering to enhance grain development.

Fourth is anti-premature aging   Corn plants are tall and require significant nutrients and water. Excessive moisture can reduce soil oxygen levels, weakening root activity and making it hard for roots to absorb water. On sunny days, transpiration from leaves increases, leading to metabolic imbalances, leaf curling, slow growth, and even plant death if nutrients are insufficient. To prevent this, drainage should be ensured in rainy areas. If plants show signs of yellowing or premature aging, apply refined fertilizer or spray phosphate solution at the beginning of flowering to extend the green period, improve ear formation, and apply ash or potassium sulfate at the seedling stage. These steps help prevent early aging and support healthier growth. (Gansu Science and Technology News Cheng Yanli)
