When bearings begin to show late-stage fault characteristics—such as axial damage, burning, sand cracks, raceway wear, or cage damage—it's often a sign that the bearing is nearing the end of its life. The larger the equipment and the higher the operating speed, the shorter the time between maintenance intervals. Therefore, it's essential for INA bearing technicians to act quickly once these symptoms are detected. Bearings are manufactured through multiple stages, including casting, heat treatment, turning, grinding, and assembly. Each of these steps plays a vital role in determining the final quality and lifespan of the bearing. Heat treatment, for example, can significantly impact the material properties, while the grinding process directly affects the surface finish and structural integrity. Over the years, studies have shown that the grinding process has a strong correlation with the appearance and performance of INA bearings. During normal operation, bearings typically exhibit stable oscillation and noise levels, with simple frequency spectra showing only one or two harmonic frequencies. However, as the bearing ages, the noise and vibration may gradually increase, sometimes leading to unusual sounds. At this stage, the bearing's clearance value may reach a critical level, signaling the onset of potential failure. According to experts from the Bearing Trade Network, this is when the bearing starts to enter a faulty state. The main goal of bearing life analysis is to identify the root causes of failure by examining various factors such as material properties, operational conditions, and maintenance practices. This helps in developing strategies to extend the service life of oil-free bearings and prevent sudden failures. To ensure optimal performance and longevity of INA oil-free bearings, the following maintenance procedures are recommended: 1. Before starting the grinding wheel spindle, check that the pump station pressure and the static pressure of the grinding head are within the specified range. 2. When shutting down the equipment, first turn off the grinding head motor, wait for the grinding wheel to stabilize, and then shut off the pump station. This prevents unnecessary damage to the grinding head. 3. After regular use, replace the 2# spindle oil and clean the coarse and fine filters. 4. When refilling the pump station with oil, always use three layers of silk cloth filtration to ensure cleanliness. 5. When replacing any components on the pump station, first remove the high-pressure oil inlet hose joint. After replacement, allow the oil circuit to self-circulate for 15–20 minutes before reconnecting the oil line to the grinding head. This ensures that the spindle oil reaching the grinding head is ultra-clean and finely filtered, thereby extending the life of the dynamic pressure spindle. 6. When loading or unloading the spindle pulley and grinding wheel, always do so under the condition that the pump station is running. This means the spindle should be suspended in a static pressure oil environment, which protects both the spindle and the dynamic pressure bearing from damage.
