Key Issues Discussion on INA Oil-Free Bearing Timing Maintenance

Source: China Bearing Network | Time: 2013-08-09

In the context of INA oil-free bearing maintenance, identifying late-stage fault characteristics is crucial. These may include severe issues such as axle damage, burning, sand cracks, raceway wear, and cage wear. The time between these faults can be very short—often less than a week. The larger the equipment and the higher the speed, the shorter the interval for potential failure. Therefore, during the practical diagnosis of INA bearings, if late-stage fault features are detected, it's essential to quickly assess whether an oil-free bearing is involved and organize maintenance promptly. Bearings are manufactured through multiple steps, including casting, heat treatment, turning, grinding, and installation. The rationality, advancement, and stability of each process directly impact the bearing’s lifespan. Heat treatment plays a significant role in determining bearing quality, while the grinding process often has a more direct relationship with bearing failures. Over the years, research into the surface layer of INA bearings has shown that the grinding process is closely linked to the appearance and quality of the bearing. After a period of operation, the vibration and noise levels remain stable, and the frequency spectrum is simple, usually showing only one or two times the power frequency. It is rare to see three times the power frequency in the spectrum, indicating that the oil-free bearing is operating smoothly and entering a stable phase. However, as usage continues, vibration and noise gradually increase, sometimes leading to abnormal sounds. Although the rise in vibration is slow, the kurtosis value of the bearing begins to reach a certain threshold. According to experts from the Bearing Trade Network, this is when the INA bearing starts to show early signs of failure. The primary goal of analyzing bearing life is to identify the key factors contributing to bearing failure by examining various data, material samples, and failure modes. This helps provide improved alignment solutions and prevents premature failure of INA bearings. Here are some key maintenance tips for INA oil-free bearings: 1. Before starting the grinding wheel spindle, check if the pressure from the pumping station and the static pressure of the grinding head are within the specified range. 2. When stopping the equipment, first turn off the grinding head motor, wait for the grinding wheel to stabilize, and then shut down the pump station. Failing to do so may damage the grinding head. 3. After normal use, replace the 2# spindle oil and clean the coarse and fine filters regularly. 4. When refilling oil in the pump station, ensure it goes through three layers of silk cloth filtration. 5. When replacing any parts on the pump station, first remove the high-pressure oil inlet hose joint. After the replacement, let the oil circuit self-circulate for 15–20 minutes before reconnecting the oil line to the grinding head. This ensures the spindle oil entering the grinding head is ultra-clean and finely filtered, thus extending the life of the dynamic pressure spindle. 6. When loading or unloading the spindle pulley and grinding wheel, always operate under the condition that the pump station is running. This means the spindle should be suspended while the static pressure oil floats, preventing damage to the spindle and the dynamic pressure bearing.
