NTN, in collaboration with France’s SNR, has introduced a revolutionary high-resolution rotary sensor bearing. This new product offers up to 40 times the resolution of traditional bearings and is specifically designed for color copiers and precision rotary control systems. It delivers enhanced accuracy, improved performance, and energy efficiency.
SNR's sensors are line-based, featuring multiple electromagnetic sensors integrated onto an IC. They utilize the same ring magnet and electromagnetic sensor as conventional models. However, the measurement approach has been significantly upgraded. While older models generate a pulse each time a pole crosses the sensor, the new design continuously measures rotation signals between poles, offering much higher resolution.
The working principle of this new bearing is similar to that of the bearing released by Endian in August 2007. Inside the line sensor, two sets of electromagnetic sensors are placed side by side at half the interval between poles. The magnetic field intensity varies sinusoidally with respect to the angle θ. When the phase is shifted by 90°, one set of sensors captures a sine wave while the other captures a cosine wave. By analyzing these values, the system can accurately determine the position between poles.
The IC used in this sensor is only 6×7mm in size. Endian has leveraged its own bearing sensor technology to miniaturize and enhance the resolution of the device. The first batch of these sensors is integrated into ball bearings with an inner diameter of 15mm and an outer diameter of 35mm. These bearings can output up to 1280 biphasic pulse signals (Phase A and Phase B), meaning each pulse corresponds to a rotation of approximately 0.3 degrees. Additionally, the direction of rotation can be identified.
