As a natural polymer material with rich resources and excellent performance, chitosan has received extensive attention from scholars at home and abroad for its development and application. In the past ten years, more than one thousand published papers have been published. Its application scope involves Chemicals, pharmaceuticals, environmental protection, food care and various functional membrane materials and many other fields. This article only summarizes the application of chemicals, environmental protection and other aspects.
1 Environmental protection and water treatment Chitosan has made great progress in its use as a flocculant and adsorbent in water treatment processes. The amount of chitin used in this field accounts for the largest proportion of its total production. The reason for this is that conventionally used inorganic or organic flocculants, although effective, are often susceptible to secondary pollution due to their large conventional amounts, high processing costs, or the high toxicity of the residues. Therefore, the development of non-toxic, safe, cheap, no secondary pollution flocculant has become a world-wide topic. Chitosan has unique advantages in the above aspects and is biodegradable.
1.1 Purification of Drinking Water 111 Chitin, together with activated carbon and ion exchange resins, can remove or reduce (1) D, Cfc, Fe, and bacteria in tap water. Environmental protection agencies in developed countries such as the United States and Japan have approved the use of chitosan to purify drinking water, and the recommended maximum concentration is 10 mgL of commercially available US products.
1.2 Chitosan and chitosan on the coupling and adsorption of heavy metal ions Chitosan can form stable conjugates through amine groups, hydroxyl groups, and heavy metal ions in the molecule. Therefore, chitosan can be used for this combination. The performance removes Hg2+, Cu2+, Cd2+, Pb2+, and Co2+ ions in the sewage. For example, chitosan can remove all heavy metal ions from 30%CaCl2 and 60pmFe"+ solutions. In 0.02mol/L CuSO4 solution, 80% of Cu2+ chitosan and CS2 reacted with xanthogenate are removed. The 10% sodium salt solution 1.8 ml can reduce 100% of the 100/g Cd2+ solution or 100/Hg2+ solution at pH 3.5 for 30 min, reducing the Cd2+ and Hg2+ contents of the solution to 1.4 in the wastewater treatment industry. In the wastewater of the food industry, flocculants generally act in two ways: one is to improve the quality of the product, and the other is to treat the waste water, recover the materials, increase the yield and reduce the water pollution.
The protein is a zwitterion and is a negative ion at the pH above the isoelectric point|21. The isoelectric point of the protein in the food industry is mostly in the acidic range, and therefore can be agglutinated with a cationic flocculant in the neutral vicinity. Chitosan is Cationic flocculants are very suitable for this purpose. For example, in the production of fishmeal, the liquid extracted from the cooked fish contains suspended minced fish. Although it is centrifuged at high speed, it still contains a large amount of colloidal particles of suspended protein. If 1000 parts of this suspension are added, 35 parts of 0.5% shellfish are added. The sugar acetic acid solution and suspension can be agglutinated and separated. The fish meal yield is 11.8%, and the COD is removed by more than 50%. The solid content in the waste water is reduced by about 90%.
