Chinese Academy of Sciences experts invent new film materials

The reporter learned from the Chinese Academy of Sciences Hefei Institute of Materials Science and Technology on the 8th that experts from the Institute of Plasma Science used a new method of self-assembly to synthesize a multifunctional flexible film material that can efficiently remove and separate radioactive ions, strontium (Sr), and strontium ( Cs) and oily substances.

The results of this research were recently published in the "Science Report" of Nature's periodical. It provides new ideas for the treatment and separation of waste water after oil and nuclear accidents.

In recent years, frequent offshore oil spills and nuclear accidents have caused serious pollution to the ecological environment that humans are exposed to, and it is difficult to eliminate pollutants in a short period of time. The personnel of the Institute of Plasma Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, through layer-by-layer self-assembly techniques, used titanate nanobelts and polyethyleneimine as raw materials to construct a plastic nanoporous film material with excellent enrichment of radionuclides Sr and Cs. Adsorption performance, and can be quickly removed in a short period of time. At the same time, the surface of the film is covered with a layer of volatile silicone to obtain a hydrophobic film, which has excellent selectivity and fast adsorption capacity for the oily substances in the water, and its adsorption capacity is up to 23 times its own mass.
