Sumitomo Electric will market uncoated cBN materials for hardened steel cutting

Sumitomo Electric Industries will launch the new SUBBORON BN2000 material for general-purpose machining of hardened steel on April 20, 2010. This is a cBN sintered body which is sintered and solidified under high temperature and high pressure together with a binder-derived cBN powder. It can be used as a cutting tool material for quenching steel and cast iron used in high-speed machining of automotive parts and the like. It is difficult to cut ferrous metals. The new product is a low-priced type without a ceramic coating.
This new product can be used for various materials such as high-speed continuous processing, intermittent processing, and high-precision machining. It is characterized by improved purity of the ceramic bonding material, thereby greatly improving heat resistance. Therefore, it is possible to suppress material deterioration due to high heat during processing and to reduce head defect caused by friction between the cutter head and the cutter head. Its life span is 30 to 100% longer than the company's original product.
Moreover, the product lineup is more substantial than the company's previous products. Variety "LT" with sharpness and "HS" with enhanced cutter head are available. A total of 88 types of products with different cutter head noises R have been added, which is about 1.5 times the original. The product range has been further expanded to reach 259 categories. In terms of price, the standard product "NU-TNMA160404" is 3,000 yen (excluding tax).
