Threading pipes serve a crucial role in protecting wires from environmental corrosion and mechanical damage. There are various types of threading pipes available, including metal and PVC options. Let’s explore the features and applications of both metal and plastic threading pipes.
Polycarbonate (PC) is a transparent, amorphous thermoplastic that is odorless, non-toxic, and typically colorless or slightly yellow. It is often blended with stabilizers like stearic acid, paraffin, CPE (chlorinated polyethylene), calcium carbonate, and titanium dioxide to enhance its properties. PC exhibits excellent physical and mechanical characteristics, such as high impact resistance, tensile strength, flexural strength, and compressive strength. It also demonstrates low creep and good dimensional stability, along with heat and cold resistance. Its mechanical properties remain stable across a wide temperature range, from -60°C to 120°C. While it doesn’t have a distinct melting point, it melts at around 220–230°C. Due to its rigid molecular structure, it has high viscosity when melted. It absorbs very little moisture, shrinks minimally, and maintains high dimensional accuracy. Additionally, it is self-extinguishing, resistant to light, but not UV-resistant. It resists oils and acids but is not suitable for strong alkalis, oxidizing agents, amines, ketones, or certain solvents. Prolonged exposure to water can lead to hydrolysis and cracking. However, it has some drawbacks, such as poor fatigue resistance, susceptibility to stress cracking, and limited solvent resistance.
PVC flame-retardant threading pipes offer outstanding electrical insulation and high dielectric strength, making them safe for use without the risk of charging. They also have a high oxygen index, which contributes to their excellent flame retardancy. In case of fire, they self-extinguish within 30 seconds.
Bellows materials come in two main types: rubber and metal. These are flexible, wave-like tubes designed to accommodate small bending radii, irregular turns, stretching, or thermal expansion. Metal bellows are commonly made from carbon steel, stainless steel, or aluminum. They are used when connecting pipes that cannot be joined with fixed elbows or when connecting pipes to equipment.
Metal threading pipes are primarily used to protect wires from mechanical damage. The choice between metal and other materials like plastic depends on the application. For areas where wires are exposed to potential damage, metal pipes are necessary. Plastic pipes, such as PVC or PE, are suitable for indoor walls and ceilings. Common threading pipe types include PE pipes, PVC pipes, iron pipes, galvanized steel pipes, and bellows.
Steel pipes are categorized into several types, including stainless steel, welded steel, spiral steel, and low-alloy steel pipes. Galvanized steel pipes are a type of welded steel pipe coated with a layer of zinc through hot-dipping. This coating enhances corrosion resistance and extends the pipe's lifespan. Galvanized pipes are widely used for transporting low-pressure fluids like water, gas, and oil. They are also employed in the petroleum industry for oil well pipes, oil pipelines, and in chemical plants for heat exchangers, condensers, and cooling systems. They are also used in mining, construction, railways, automotive, and marine industries. Hot-dip galvanized steel pipes are especially popular in infrastructure projects such as bridges, containers, and sports facilities.
