However, they only require four key systems: fuel supply, cooling, lubrication, and starting. The absence of an ignition system is due to the nature of compression ignition. When it comes to fuel type, internal combustion engines can be further classified into gasoline engines and diesel engines. Gasoline engines are known for their high-speed operation, lighter weight, quieter performance, and easier starting. They are generally more affordable to manufacture. Diesel engines, on the other hand, feature a higher compression ratio, leading to better thermal efficiency and improved fuel economy. Additionally, modern diesel engines often offer better emissions performance compared to their gasoline counterparts, especially when equipped with advanced technologies like particulate filters and exhaust gas recirculation.
