By the 1860s, the universal milling machine emerged as a game-changer. Joseph Brown, an American engineer, introduced the first universal milling machine in 1862. This model featured a swiveling table and a vertical milling head, allowing for more flexible operations. It was a major breakthrough, and when Brown showcased his invention at the 1867 Paris Exposition, it received widespread acclaim. He also developed forming cutters and grinding machines that helped refine the quality of milling tools, bringing the technology to new heights.
