Safety gear required for work at height

At high places, safety helmets, safety belts (or ropes), and safety nets are known as the "three treasures" and play a crucial role in protecting workers from potential injuries. These essential safety tools help prevent accidents and ensure a safer working environment.

1. Safety Helmets A safety helmet is a vital piece of personal protective equipment designed to protect the head from falling objects or side impacts. It typically consists of two main parts: the outer shell and the inner liner. The materials used for the helmet can include plastic, rubber, metal, or natural fibers. According to the national standard GB 2811-1988, it's important to inspect the helmet before each use for cracks, dents, scratches, or any signs of damage. Always wear the helmet properly, ensuring the chin strap is securely fastened. Never place anything on top of the helmet or expose it to direct sunlight, extreme heat, or corrosive substances. If a helmet has been subjected to a strong impact, it should be replaced immediately and not reused.

2. Safety Belts The primary function of a safety belt is to secure the worker to a fixed object, preventing accidental falls that could lead to serious injury or death. A typical safety belt includes three components: the belt itself, the rope, and metal fittings such as hooks, rings, and clips. These components are made from durable materials like cotton, vinylon, silk, or aluminum alloys, chosen for their strength, flexibility, and resistance to wear and tear. Different types of safety belts are available depending on the task—such as those used for climbing, suspended work, or electrical operations. Before using a safety belt, always check its condition, and make sure it is properly attached and secured. When using it, always follow the correct technique: attach it to a stable point, and avoid hanging it loosely. After use, store it in a safe and dry place to maintain its effectiveness.

3. Safety Nets Safety nets are used to prevent people or objects from falling and to reduce the impact of falling items. They are generally made up of a net body, side ropes, tether ropes, and other structural elements. Safety nets can be divided into two main types: flat nets, which are installed parallel to the ground, and vertical nets, which are installed perpendicular to the ground. Choosing and installing a safety net should be done by trained personnel, and after installation, it must be inspected by safety officers before use. During operation, avoid dragging the net over rough surfaces, placing heavy objects inside or under the net, or allowing welding sparks or chemicals to fall into it. Regular inspections are necessary—at least once a week—and more frequent checks should be done after major impacts. Always keep the net clean and ensure the test rope remains intact. Every three months, a strength test should be conducted. Safety nets should never be removed without proper authorization and should be stored and managed by designated personnel.
