The Use and Selection Skills of the Board in Decoration:

Blockboard is known for its excellent moisture resistance. It consists of natural wood strips in the center, with thin veneer on both sides. This material plays a crucial role in home decoration, commonly used for furniture, wooden doors, door panels, heating covers, and curtain boxes. Due to its good waterproof performance, it’s ideal for areas that may be exposed to humidity. When selecting blockboard, make sure the internal wood structure isn’t broken or damaged. The surface is usually covered with a layer of plywood, and when used for furniture, it often goes through two steps—adhesive board application and painting—which makes it more expensive.

Integrated boards are less prone to warping and deformation. They are made from large-diameter logs processed in a finger-jointed manner, offering better environmental performance and lower formaldehyde emissions. This makes them a popular choice for eco-friendly projects.

MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) and particleboard each have their own pros and cons. Particleboard is made by compressing wood chips into a board, while MDF is created by pressing fine wood particles. MDF has a smooth surface but poor moisture resistance. Its grip strength is not as strong as particleboard, making it less suitable for applications that require screw fixing.

Face veneer multi-layer boards are cost-effective and widely used. These boards come in different thicknesses, with three-ply being the most common. Their quality largely depends on the raw materials. In home decoration, veneer plywood is often pre-finished with a thin layer of solid wood veneer, making it easy to use and affordable.

Pine boards are made from softwood and are second only to pine in terms of quality. Ash and raft boards are also solid wood options, known for their hardness and suitability for direct furniture production. Depending on the quality and color variation, these boards are classified into A, B, and C grades. Grade A boards, around 30mm thick, can cost up to 500 yuan, offering a beautiful finish for stairs, floors, and other visible areas. Meanwhile, grade C white pine boards with noticeable color differences and knots are much cheaper, around 100 yuan, and serve as an economical alternative to core boards in cabinets and storage units.

The latest innovation in board materials is straw board. Unlike traditional wood-based boards, this one uses agricultural straw from the south as its main component. It’s dried and pressed without any formaldehyde-containing adhesives, making it an environmentally friendly and sustainable option.
